Scaly Pholiota

Pholiota squarrosa, the Scaly Pholiota growing in the split of a wooden log in the forest in Tharand, Saxony, Germany

Tharandterwald, Germany, October 2016

In the log of a long ago cut tree was a breech. These little fellows, together with other types of mushrooms, made themselves a cozy nest which they cushioned with green moss. I think this is a Pholiota squarrosa, the Scaly Pholiota.
